Dr. Mitch Abrams

Physician | Assistant Professor, McMaster University | Educator of Compassion Science through Stanford’s CCARE | Founder, NexGenHealth

Dr. Mitch Abrams is a Canadian radiologist, TEDx and keynote speaker, corporate workshop facilitator, educator, and founder of NexGenHealth and NexGenHealth Foundation. He is a Certified Educator of Applied Compassion through Stanford Medical School’s Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE).

He earned his medical degree and radiology specialty at Dalhousie University, completed a subspecialty in cross-sectional imaging at the University of Toronto, and is an assistant clinical professor at McMaster University’s Michael G. DeGroote School of Medical Sciences. He previously served as Chair of Diagnostic Imaging at Cambridge Memorial Hospital.

Following an unexpected diagnosis of hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy and open-heart surgery early in his career, Dr. Abrams experienced healthcare from the perspectives of physician, patient, and system leader. This pivotal experience opened his eyes to the gaps in our medical system and led him on a healing journey of his own, inspiring his mission to bring greater coherence, compassion, and connection to healthcare and communities.

Through NexGenHealth Foundation, Dr. Abrams leads two mission-driven initiatives:

  • RADD ART, a Stanford CCARE capstone project, integrating art, music, and science to support resilience education and mental health research. This art collection offers a narrative grounded in evidence-based connection and human adaptability.
  • Global Heart Sync is a platform and movement that gamifies heart coherence practices, empowering individuals and communities to foster meaningful connection, enhance well-being, and generate positive global impact.
