As a pioneer shaping Puerto Rico's emerging space industry, Jose Molina is a pivotal force in building a sustainable and hopeful future for the island's space industry. His career is a testament to a long-term vision that intertwines economic development with education and strategic access to space.
Molina’s commitment began with nurturing the next generation of talent. As a faculty member at the Arecibo Observatory Space Academy, he mentored over 300 students on award-winning projects recognized by NASA and the Discovery Channel. This foundation in education expanded as he grew the National Space Society's Puerto Rico Chapter to over 200 members and co-chaired the 2016 International Space Development Conference, the largest space event in Puerto Rico's history.
He was a driving force behind the Spaceport Puerto Rico project, where he crafted its economic development strategy, initiated the FAA launch license process, and demonstrated resilience by helping secure over $10 million in investments despite significant challenges. His expertise is trusted at the highest levels, evidenced by his appointment to the Governor's Council for the Aerospace and Aeronautical Industry, where he advises on the spaceport's long-term sustainability.
This vision culminates in his current role as co-founder and CEO of the Puerto Rico Space Foundation. In a short time, the Foundation has:
- Launched the first-ever analog astronaut training program with an all-Puerto Rican crew.
- Hosted a Space Business Plan Hackathon to integrate local economic incentives with new space ventures.
